I have the honour to acknowledge the

receipt of your despatch No.534 of the 10th

December last, forwarding a memorial from nine

officers recently appointed as cadets in the

Civil Service of Hong Kong, the Straits

Settlements and the Federated Malay States, and

now serving in Hong Kong.

In their memorial, these cadets call

attention to eight appointments in the public

service of Hong Kong which have been made with-

in the last four years and for which cadets
